Canine, Feline, Avian, and Exotic Laser Surgery in Sacramento
Using a laser during surgery instead of a scalpel blade provides many advantages to the surgeon and patient.
How it Works-
When CO2 laser is delivered to the soft tissue, the light energy is absorbed by the water existing in the in the soft tissue we are using it on. Our bodies are made up of nearly two-thirds water. It vaporizes this water, allowing us to remove the tissue that the laser has struck. The Surgical Laser is very accurate, we can precisely pinpoint the area to operate. The laser has virtually no effect on the surrounding tissue
Why Use Laser
- Less Pain - lasers reduce the amount of pain involved in surgeries by actually sealing the ends of nerves in the affected tissues.
Less Bleeding - The laser actually help to control bleeding by sealing off the tiny capillaries and vessels that may leak and ooze during normal surgeries. - Less Swelling - No physical contact except the invisible laser beam. The tissue will not be crushed, bruised or torn.
- Sterilization - The laser sterilizes the surgical site as it cuts. Bacteria and viruses are vaporized by the laser during laser surgery helping to minimize potential post-operative infections.
- Faster Recovery - Less bleeding and swelling will result in faster healing. This stops the propagation of the pain impulse and will actually help the pet to heal faster
- Precision - The beam direction and power can be controlled precisely to remove thin layers of tissue thereby reducing the damage to any of the surrounding tissue.
- Reduced hospitalization time - All of above factor will greatly reduce the procedure time.
The laser also has many other attributes:
- The laser never has to touch the tissue. This makes for much less tissue trauma.
- Bleeding is markedly reduced. This is always of great benefit in surgical situations.
- There is minimal swelling.
- Surgical time is greatly reduced.
- Pain is also markedly decreased.
Here is a short list of the types of procedures:
- Spays and neuters
- Declaws. This is one of the most frequent uses of the laser. The pain reduction is remarkable.
- Ear surgeries, especially for those dogs with chronic ear infections that require reconstructive-type surgeries.
- Eye and eyelid surgeries
- Oral surgery
- Lick granulomas
- Lump or tumor removals
